Project Eight
The Absurd
A central feature of the human condition is the universal search for meaning.
Philosopher Albert Camus in his 1942 work ‘The myth of Sisyphus’ argues that in this search for meaning the universe is silent. This gap between the search for meaning and the silence of the world lays the foundation for the Absurd.
Camus brings to bear a variety of themes to illustrate his argument using the Ancient Greek figure of Sisyphus, condemned to roll a rock up a hill for eternity, as an example for our reference.
He speaks of revolt, freedom and passion as attitudes to approach life, for seeking meaning in itself is simply absurd.
In this project I will explore Absurdism and the themes expressed by Camus in his work as a portal to make sense of life and our place in the world.
This heart I can feel
This world I can touch
The rest is construction
Freedom
We only experience our own freedom.
