Here is a selection of short stories and poems to make you laugh and cry.
Edge Lane at Midnight -
29th December 1992
Edge Lane wears in the midnight hour
All streetlights and taxis, buses that whizz past
The puddle on the corner is more like a pond
An urban artery of chaos
Yesterday - February 1993
Yesterday I got thrown off a train
It wasn’t very nice
Yesterday I played with Sam
He bit me
Yesterday I went into the bathroom
I trapped my finger in the door
Yesterday my guitar strings snapped
Ho hum
Big brother, little brother -
July 1994
Tears as the frisbee’s owner suddenly changes hands
The pain and pleasure of belonging on the grass of the sacred parkland
Running the race to save your face
Tears come again, another loss
Big brother, little brother, somehow, I can’t win
Joe - April 1993
Once upon a time, there was a man called Joe
He lived in a garden
He cared for it every day
One day, there was a huge forest fire in Nebraska which was so fierce it burned up the whole world
Joe died
Bogeys - September 1994
Crunchy and green, like barnacles rooted into your nose
Waiting to be plucked in those hours of boredom.
They like to find hiding places at the back of the nasal passage
Hoping that the finger of the picker will not see, lest they become free.
Sometimes they like to go for a swim,
Then they turn from being bogeys into snot.
The handkerchief becomes a safety net for them.
Finally, they are very good to roll.
